Licenciado en Ciencia Política por la Universidad Nacional de Rosario, Argentina, y Doctor en Estudios Árabes e Islámicos por la Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (UAM). Ha realizado estancias de investigación pre-doctorales en la Universidad Ca’Foscari de Venecia (Italia), y University of Exeter (Reino Unido), y numerosas visitas a Irán para realizar trabajo de campo. Ha realizado su estancia post-doctoral en la Universidad Autónoma de Barcelona, Alianza 4 Universidades. Ha trabajado desde 2002 como becario e investigador contratado en el Taller de Estudios Internacionales Mediterráneos de la UAM y como profesor del Doctorado de Estudios Internacionales Mediterráneos y el Master en Estudios Árabes e Islámicos Contemporáneos. También ha sido desde 2009 a 2014 Honorary University Fellow en el Institute for Arab and Islamic Studies, University of Exeter. En la actualidad se desempeña como Research Assistant Professor en Qatar University, y Visiting Professor en la Georgetown University in Qatar, donde imparte asignaturas sobre procesos de democratización en Oriente Medio y política de Irán y del Golfo. También ocupa, desde 2006 la dirección del OPEMAM, Observatorio Político y Electoral del Mundo Árabe y Musulmán (www.opemam.org).
